Doctoral alumni and lecturers have been granted patents for product design, specifically 18 textile patterns. The designer of the textile patterns is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jintana Inpakdee, a doctoral alumna in Art and Design from the Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design, Naresuan University. The advisor is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nirat Sungsang, a lecturer in the Product and Packaging Design program.
This work stems from the thesis titled 'Fibers development and natural dyeing extraction from banana tree for creative communities textile product design'.
Design Concept: The creation of these textile patterns focuses on designs that can be practically produced on traditional looms. The researcher developed new patterns by combining the weaving techniques of 'Khit' and 'Mudmee' to create dimension and unique characteristics for the fabric. The design concept is inspired by the natural structure of the 'banana tree', using the graceful curves of the 'banana peel' and the rhythmically layered structure of the 'banana blossom' as abstract models. The pattern composition emphasizes repetition and layering of shapes to create visual rhythm and movement on the fabric, resulting in new pattern designs that retain a natural essence while incorporating contemporary elements. The pattern inspired by the banana peel is named 'Kruea Gab Kluay' (Banana Peel Vine). The patterns inspired by the banana blossom are named 'Kruea Yod Plee' (Blossom Tip Vine) and 'Kruea Dok Plee' (Blossom Flower Vine). The word 'Kruea' signifies connection and the inheritance of weaving wisdom, representing a continuous cultural thread from the past to the present.
