The Art and Architecture Design Center was founded in 2001 as the "Architectural Professional Service Center", and was later renamed the "Center for Vernacular Art and Architecture (Lower Northern Region)" and then the "Institute of Vernacular Art and Architecture of the Lower Northern Region". It is a sub-unit with a status equivalent to a department within the Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design, responsible for academic and professional services, providing hands-on experience for students and faculty members, and offering design and consultancy work for organisations both inside and outside the university.
Today the Center is the faculty's principal unit for academic services, covering architectural design, visual arts and applied arts. It manages the resources and staff needed to deliver those services, supports teaching and professional research, and acts as the link between external organisations, entrepreneurs and faculty members for academic and professional collaboration.
